Cool, New Treat Available Only at Food Lion Stores
SALISBURY, N.C. - One year after the successful launch of Food Lion brand Cheerwine Swirl - a Cheerwine-flavored sherbet swirled in vanilla ice cream - Food Lion and Carolina Beverage Corp., have introduced "Cheerwine Sherbet." The co-branded, pure Cheerwine-flavored sherbet is available only at Food Lion stores.
The sherbet product - available in plastic quart cartons - hit stores in April and is now available in all Food Lion stores that carry Cheerwine Swirl ice cream.
"Cheerwine Swirl is one of Food Lion's most successful co-branded ice cream products," said Jeff Lowrance, Food Lion's corporate communications manager. "Food Lion brand Cheerwine ice cream products are the result of a great partnership between the two companies. We expect an enthusiastic customer response to Cheerwine Sherbet."
Dairy Fresh, a Winston-Salem, N.C., subsidiary of Dean Foods, the nation's leading processor and distributor of fresh milk and other dairy products, manufactures Cheerwine Sherbet. Dairy Fresh produces all of Food Lion's private label ice creams.
"Consumers loved the Cheerwine-flavored sherbet swirled in the ice cream product so much that they began asking for a sherbet-only product," said Glenn Guyaux, director of sales for Dairy Fresh.
"Cheerwine Sherbet is the exact formula used in making Cheerwine Swirl and offers the same great sherbet taste that consumers have been enjoying for nearly a year in the ice cream product," Guyaux said.
"The American consumer loves ice cream products, as evident by the continued growth in the ice cream category," said Mark Ritchie, president of Carolina Beverage Corp. "Cheerwine Sherbet is an extension of the Cheerwine Swirl ice cream and is another way for consumers to enjoy Cheerwine's unique cherry taste."
